2009 SDC Results

87The 2009 Student Design Competition was judged at the 157th ASA Meeting in Portland, Oregon, in May 2009. The project involved the development of a building at a small college to house an interfaith chapel and community outreach center. There were 21 entries submitted from a number of different schools. The panel of judges included: Jacob Friesen (J. Friesen Consultant in Acoustics, Los Angeles); Edward Logsdon (D.L. Adams Associates, Denver, Colorado); Andy Miller (BAI, Austin, Texas); Michelle Vigeant (University of Hartford); and Steven Weeks (Boora Architects, Portland).

And the winners are…

First Honors ($1250 prize):

  • Karl Eriksson, Rikard Olsson, and Victor Gunnarsson from Chalmers Institute of Technology (Faculty Advisor: Mendel Kleiner)

Commendations in no particular order ($700 prize):

  • Shane Kanter, Jon Birney, and John Hodgson from the University of Kansas (Faculty Advisor: Bob Coffeen)
  • Sebastian Forss, Fredrik Hagman, and Lisa Kinnerud from Chalmers Institute of Technology (Faculty Advisor: Mendel Kleiner)
  • Anna Sandberg, Caroline Werner, and Elis Johansson from Chalmers Institute of Technology (Faculty Advisor: Mendel Kleiner)
  • Alic Vedad, Hanna Mangs, and Daniel Johansson from Chalmers Institute of Technology (Faculty Advisor: Mendel Kleiner)
