2002 SDC Results

The 2002 Student Design Competition was judged at the 143rd ASA conference in Pittsburgh, June 2002. The project involved designing a performance hall primarily for opera at a college of moderate size with a very strong music program. There were 10 posters submitted from 5 different schools. This year’s panel of judges included: Felicia Doggett (Metropolitan Acoustics), Ron Freiheit (Wenger Corporation), Jim Johnson (Wrightson Johnson Haddon and Williams), Jim Pappas (Tasso Katselas Associates), and Carl Rosenberg (Acentech).

And the winners are…

First Honors ($1000 prize):

  • William Chu and Dana Smith, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Faculty Advisors: Chris Jaffe, Yasushi Shimizu, and Rendell Torres)

Commendations ($500 prize):

  • Bridget Bednarczyk, University of Florida – Gainesville (Faculty Advisor: Gary Siebein)
  • Phyllis Henderson, University of Florida – Gainesville (Faculty Advisor: Gary Siebein)
  • Kevin Kane and Iraklis Lampropoulos, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Faculty Advisors: Chris Jaffe, Yasushi Shimizu, and Rendell Torres)
  • Rob Lee and Mike Oliva, University of Kansas (Faculty Advisor: Bob Coffeen)
