The 2007 Student Design Competition, sponsored by the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) Technical Committee on Architectural Acoustics (TCAA) and the Newman Student Award Fund, was judged at the 153rd ASA Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, in June 2007. The project involved the design of a college performance hall and related facilities, primarily for the school's strong opera program. There were 20 entries submitted from a number of different schools. The panel of judges included: Roger Jackson (FFKR Architects), Dana Hougland (Shen Milsom Wilke), Ron McKay (McKay Conant Brooke), Russ Cooper (Jaffe Holden Acoustics) and Russ Olsen (Acoustical Design Group).

The 2007 Awards have been funded by a grant from the Wenger Foundation through the ASA's Newman Student Award Fund. Wenger has generously agreed to fund the awards annually in memory of the firm's founder, Harry Wenger, who was a long-time friend of education in music and in architectural acoustics.
